This large painting is about healing, hope and transformation. It is based on an ancient text from the Old Testament / Torah which talks about binding up the broken hearted and people being set free.

The text (Isaiah 61, focus on verse 3) uses very visual language referenced in the painting such as being given a crown of beauty instead of ashes and a clothing of praise instead of despair. The visual picture given in the text for this transformation and healing is trees of justice that display magnificence; “They will be called oaks of righteousness”. The peaceful, strong woman is wearing a golden headdress and her clothing explodes with golden shapes and symbols referring to praise, peace and joy. The background shows green tree branches reaching up and outwards behind the woman suggesting growth and development. The subtle gold lines on the trees reference bark and kintsugi; a Japanese art form that involves joining broken pottery back together with precious metals, what was once broken is joined back together, stronger and more beautiful than before.

This painting celebrates amazing transformation and healing. The woman has undergone transformational healing and now is a time for growth and strength, she is a tree of justice displaying magnificence for all to see.
