The painting depicts two women who look like sisters. They are both self portraits showing the Artist nearly twenty years apart. The young woman on the left is the younger self and the woman on the right is the Artist now. Retrospect is a particularly human quality, as is emotion. Through the use of cool and warm colours, expression and body language, it is evident the two women are in very different places emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The painting reflects life’s injuries and the transformation and healing that is possible.
